The purpose of this study is to bring together all available documentary evidence relating to the physical history and use of the Lower Hall Island. This data should facilitate archeological investigation of the U. S. Rifle Factory site by helping to explain the foundation ruins of Captain John H. Hall's Patent Rifle Factory of 1819-1844, which lie under the foundations of the large U. S. Rifle Factory workshops of the 1846-61 period.
