This SOP describes how to create and load the sample unit grids, waypoints for the SW corner of sampling units, and topographic maps onto the pilots’ GPS units, which are used for navigating and marking bear and den locations as backup data to the iPad Park Observer data collected by the observer. The GPS units commonly used by survey pilots at the time of this printing are Garmin 296 and 496 (Olathe, Kansas). Please cite this Standard Operating Procedure as: Robison, H.L., K.L.
