This protocol describes how to use available software to calculate optimal survey designs for sea otters in Glacier Bay National Park. The methods used to estimate spatio-temporal occupancy and abundance are described in detail in Williams et al. (2017a), Williams et al. (2017b), and the methods used to calculate the optimal survey design is described in Williams et al. (2017c). The analysis of the data can be conducted using the stoa package (spatiotemporal occupancy abundance) in R statistical software.
