In January 2011, the US Forest Service and National Park Service established the North Cascadia Adaptation Partnership (NCAP) ( Gen. Tech. Rep. PNW-GTR-892) to identify climate change issues relevant to resource management and to develop adaptive management alternatives. Changing hydrologic flows was identified as a primary threat to all transportation systems (roads and trails). Within this category, culvert inventorying and design improvement was identified as a climate adaptation strategy. The limited spatial information on culverts at NOCA in FMSS prevents accurate conversion of culvert data into a GIS layer for analysis. Three guides were developed following NCAP to improve culvert management and proactive adaptation to changing climates: field surveys, management of culverts in GIS, and analysis of culvert inventory and hydrologic data. This guide provides an overview on the information provided by the culvert inventory project and how the data can be used in analytics and predictions.
