Several facts about the dams in Valley Creek, their location and their uses are fairly well established: I. That there was a forge, called the Mount of Joy or Valley Forge, for working iron which was conveyed here in pigs from Warwick and other furnaces in the district. It was erected between the years of 1742 and 1751 by Stephen Evans, Daniel Walker and Joseph Williams. They purchased the land comprising 175 acres in 1742 from the agents of the Penn family, when the forge is not mentioned. An interest in it, including the forge, was offered for sale in 1751, so that the forge was built between the years named and continued to stand here and to be operated, as is clearly inferred by the transfer to John Potts in 1757, and later transfers from one member of the Potts family to another.
