Field Methods: We will enter all accessible passages of each mine on foot, identifying and counting the bats as encountered. We will examine each bat as best as possible, without handling them, for signs of white-nose syndrome (WNS). We will record all observations of bats with field signs of WNS. Photos of bats will be taken as needed to count number of individuals in clusters and to document WNS. Accessible bats will be swabbed (five per species) while still hanging to contribute to a national WNS study by Frick et al.
