As part of the ongoing vegetation mapping effort at Point Reyes National Seashore (referred to as PRNS throughout this report), Ikonos imagery was assembled here at University of Montana into a seamless layer for classification. It encompasses lands containing Golden Gate National Recreation Area units from the north end of Tomales Bay at the top end of PRNS, and extending south to the Golden Gate Bridge, including part of Marin County. Parklands include all of Point Reyes N.S., Samuel P. Taylor State Park, Tomales Bay State Park, Muir Woods National Monument, Mount Tamalpais State Park, Audubon Canyon Ranch, Fort Baker, Marin Headlands, Tennessee Valley, Stinson Beach, and other lands administered by Golden Gate NRA. The total area classified is 78,078 hectares, 192,935 acres, or 302 square miles. Those figures include a small buffer zone of 400 meters of non-vegetation coastal waters in the classification.
