This Historic Structures Report contains administrative, historical, and architectural data for the Captain Edward Penniman House and Barn at Cape Cod National Seashore. The house in Eastham, Massachusetts is historically important because of its highly unusual style and its representation as the only whaling captain's home in this area. The report addresses design and construction, structural changes to the buildings, and general internal appearance. The house was constructed in a Second Empire French style with Mansard roof. Restoration was planned in order to return the exterior of the House and Barn to its appearance during the historic period of 1868, restoring the original color and finish to the structures, and also to restore the fence around the yard. It would function as an interpretive exhibit in place.
