The Shoreline Position Trend Report is derived from surveys conducted from fall 2011 through spring 2017. These surveys are of the bay-facing shoreline of Sagamore Hill National Historic Site. The report includes seasonal, annual, and 5-year (spring 2012 to spring 2017) shoreline position changes displayed in a spatial format, as well as histograms and statistical data describing the observed changes, following the model presented in Psuty et al. (2010). A trend of net shoreline displacement is calculated for a period of 5.5 years, from fall 2011 to spring 2017. The general directions of shoreline displacement throughout the site were west (inland) at the northern portion and south (downdrift) at the terminus of the spit. Some of the variation was the product of Hurricane Sandy that caused considerable mobilization of sediment in beach regions updrift of the surveyed shoreline and deposition within the survey area. These survey results are the first product of the shoreline position monitoring at Sagamore Hill called for in the protocol for shoreline coastal geomorphological monitoring in the Northeast Coastal and Barrier Network.
