This Level II (2) cultural landscape inventory report concerns Casa Grande Ruins National Monument. It was prepared after a one day site visit in March 1997, when the recorder took photographs, conducted an interview, and reviewed the monument's photograph and map collections. This followed the Level I preliminary research and site visit from the previous year. The Casa Grande landscape as described in this report represents two distinct landscapes: a pre-contact vernacular landscape, and a landscape designed by the NPS during the 20th century. The landscape includes development complexes that reflect the spatial organization, design, and use during the period of Hohokam settlement (300-1450 CE). Later features that overlay this landscape include an old stage coach road and NPS park development. The report includes maps and drawings, photographs, site descriptions, and historical information. The CLI was completed by the University of Arizona through cooperative agreement with the National Park Service.
