I captured six adult birds at the Desert Studies Center in Zzyzx, CA. I also surveyed a wash along the east side of Kelbaker Rd, north of Kelso, where I found many phainopeplas but did not capture any. I banded the six birds captured at Zzyzx and collected blood samples for genetic analysis and feather samples for plumage color analysis. These data were ultimately not used as part of my study, as I collected more extensive data from several other locations outside the preserve.
