The purpose of this study is to assess the value of the previous reports and recommendations, provide a complete survey and analysis of the existing condition of the lighthouse, and provide recommendations for its repair and preservation. This report and its appendices address the structural analysis of the lighthouse. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was constructed in 1869, serving an important role in safeguarding the coastline for shipping. It was established by the federal Lighthouse Board and later became the responsibility of the U.S. Coast Guard. In response to the threat to the structure by shoreline erosion, several studies have proposed solutions to protect the Light Station. In addition to an overview of the development and existing conditions of the lighthouse, the study provides field survey evaluation and analysis of specific structural aspects.
