This is the Historic Structure Assessment Report for the U.S. Coast Guard Station at Cape Lookout National Seashore, Building Number 501 A. The two-story building was constructed between September 1916 and June 1917. This was one of the lifeboat stations operating in North Carolina and it has a prominent role in the maritime heritage of that state. The structure is a rectangular building with symmetrical facades, a watchtower, two chimneys (one missing), gable on hip roof, and porch. The assessment is based on the Inventory and Condition Assessment Program (ICAP), a systematized methodology to inventory and assess condition of or inspect maintenance features, and a computer program to manage to substantial volume of information developed under the program. The inventory and condition assessment is based on a comprehensive field inspection conducted by park, regional office, or DSC staff and/or contractors. The report consists of general data, historical data, inventory data, condition assessment data, cost data, and graphic data. The report includes photographs, measured drawings, and the National Register of Historic Places Nomination form.
