Efforts are underway to rehabilitate the North Junction Overlook area, which is the second-most popular site from which to view Crater Lake. This project is a collaboration between the Crater Lake National Park Trails and Botany programs. The Trails program will construct new trail and overlook areas, while revegetation of trampled areas back to native plant communities will be accomplished by the Botany program. Revegetation progress made during the 2018 field season includes developing plans for revegetation, collecting native seed, and initiating plant propagation for restoration outplantings. Seed was collected from ten native plant species, and over 2,500 pots were seeded and cold stratified for germination in spring of 2019. The entire project area was surveyed for invasive plants; none were encountered. Revegetation work will continue into the 2019 season, expanding and increasing seed collection and plant propagation efforts to build a solid foundation of plant materials available for restoration.
