Diet Analysis of White Ibis Chicks in Everglades National Park

Diet Analysis of White Ibis Chicks in Everglades National Park. Research Permit and Reporting System

In the dry seasons of 2017 and 2018, we collected boluses from White Ibis chicks in four colonies in ENP (2017: Cabbage Bay and Otter Creek; 2018: Broad River, Paurotis Pond, and Cabbage Bay). Over 160 boluses were collected over the two years. In 2017, prey composition of the colonies was dominated by estuarine crabs (four genera). The crayfish use with high nesting effort in 2018 supports previous work highlighting the importance of crayfish to White Ibis colony energetics.
