Evaluating Reef Resilience Along the West Coast of Hawai‘i Island

Minton D, Conklin E, Couch C, Amimoto R, Carr R, Lynch H, Most R, Rose J, Walsh C, Wiggins C. Evaluating Reef Resilience Along the West Coast of Hawai‘i Island. Research Permit and Reporting System

The Nature Conservancy and partners assessed the relative resilience potential of 20 reef locations along West Hawai‘i Island from 2015-2017. While this study showed that resilience rankings did not work as fully intended, the method was successful at consistently differentiating sites with highest and lowest potential resilience. It also suggests that increasing the number of stressors (local and global) can result in lower resilience for a reef area.
