This report documents a paleoenvironmental coring study conducted at the north and south Kaloko (Royal, or King’s) Fishponds, and Makaloa Fishpond at Pu‘uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park (PUHO), in South Kona, Hawai‘i Island. The presentation discusses relevant aspects of the regional geology, environment, previous paleoenvironmental research in Hawai‘i, fishponds, and archeology at PUHO.
