This report provides the final summation for a multi-year archaeological ruins stabilization effort completed by Nickens and Associates at two NPS areas in southeastern Utah. Most of this work was undertaken between 1983 and 1988. The general purpose of the program was to provide protection and preservation of many of the numerous prehistoric ruins located in each of the parks. This was to be accomplished through: 1) comprehensive structural stabilization of several deteriorating sites; 2) stabilization assessments; 3) monitoring of ongoing impacts at stabilized sites; and 4) preparation of stabilization plans for both parks. This report covers the stabilization work itself, information on the agents of deterioration, and summaries of the anthropological data generated during the project. A set of documents is included to assist the parks in the development of management strategies for archaeological site protection. These are: 1) a ruins stabilization handbook; 2) park specific stabilization plans; and 3) site specific evaluation and monitoring packets. Report includes summaries of stabilization activities, measured diagrams, and photographs.
