This Historic Structure Assessment Report for the Hospital/Overseer's House at Magnolia Plantation is part of the Inventory and Condition Assessment Program (ICAP) carried out at the park level to assist the maintenance manager in planning, organizing, and directing maintenance operations. Based on comprehensive field inspection and evaluation, this assessment includes photos, drawings, and information about the structure as provided for ICAP. Supplemental information includes the National Register nomination and correspondence with the previous owner. The Creole-styled Slave Hospital, referred to by the 1850 map of Magnolia Plantation, is larger than other examples in the state. When the big house was burned during the Civil War, the family moved into this structure and lived there from 1864 until 1896. It was used as an Overseer's House after the family moved into the existing main house. The structure features bousillage construction with an exterior covered with clapboards. The report provides documentation of existing conditions as well as development and modifications.
