Frazier CC and Paige JC. 1981. Historic Structure Report: Front Lake and Dam, Side Lake and Dam, Pond Bridge, Duck Cage, Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site, North Carolina. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. Denver, Colorado
This Historic Structures Report concerns the Dam and Front Lake, Dam and Side Lake, and Pond Bridge, built prior to the Sandburg's occupancy but enjoyed by them, and the Duck Cage, built by the Sandburgs. Each is an important historic element in the interpretation of Carl Sandburg's home between 1945 and 1967. The purpose of this report is to document existing conditions of these historic structures and to provide recommendations as necessary to provide the appropriate level of treatment. The report describes the history, treatment, management, and proposed use of each structure. The preservation treatment varies from subject to subject because their age and levels of deterioration vary. The preparation of the architectural data section has involved both field and archival investigations.
