This Trend Report summarizes the results of shoreline position surveys conducted from Spring 2010 through Spring 2017 at George Washington Birthplace National Monument. The shoreline data sets include a spatial depiction and statistical data of annual changes and 7-year net changes in shoreline position, all following the model presented in Psuty et al. (2010). The George Washington Birthplace National Monument coast had slight landward displacement along the low and high bluff areas with no beach. Areas that contained sandy beach or an accumulation of sand, such as at the westernmost and easternmost margins of the site or the base of the eastern low bluff, had increased erosion because the loose sediment was more easily mobilized than the more indurated bluff material. This 2010 - 2017 Trend Report is the first product of shoreline position monitoring at George Washington Birthplace National Monument. Consistent monitoring provides information for management, and trend analysis can help management anticipate and adjust to potential impacts.
