We are working to characterize the extent of groundmass crystallization that occurred during emplacement of basaltic lava flows of Cinder Cone (LVNP). This work builds on my research investigating co-emplacement crystallization in an effort to understand a) what groundmass crystal proportions and morphologies can be used to constrain cooling and emplacement rates of basaltic lava flows in general and b) to characterize emplacement rates of the individual lava flows of the Cinder Cone eruptions.
