Design Guidelines: Cedar Pass Developed Area & Cedar Pass Lodge Complex, Badlands National Park. Cultural Landscape - Miscellaneous. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. NPS Midwest Region

These Design Guidelines provide direction to guide future planning and design of Cedar Pass Developed Area in Badlands National Park, South Dakota. General guidance is provided for the entire developed area, and more specific guidance is provided for Cedar Pass Lodge Complex. These guidelines encourage new development of visitor and park facilities that comply with the design principles set forth during the New Deal and the Mission 66's construction of the park. The Design Guidelines recognize the fundamental resources and values of Badlands National Park and focus on ensuring the conservation and public enjoyment of those qualities. The guidelines are informed by principles of the Civilian Conservation Corps and Mission 66 initiative that influenced the construction of the park and visitor facilities. Shared principles include conservation of the natural landscape, concentrating development to minimize disturbance, and designing buildings and structures to be relatively inconspicuous.
