Coyotes are a top predator across the U.S., accounting for the majority of all livestock depredations and impacting a variety of native fauna. In prairie ecosystems, coyotes are an important predator of imperiled species, such as endangered black-footed ferrets, and have accounted for up to 67% of predation-based ferret mortalities. The dual objectives of our work were to test the efficacy of a novel nonlethal coyote management tool and better understand the role of coyotes in prairie ecosystem.
