The Northern Great Plains Network will conduct long-term cave water quality monitoring in two National Park Service units, Jewel Cave National Monument and Wind Cave National Park. Monitoring will involve collecting water samples and conducting analytical laboratory analyses to determine concentrations of a suite of organic and inorganic constituents. We anticipate collecting water samples from two groundwater lakes at each park, for a total of four sites. Our objective is to determine the current condition, and to detect changes in water quality parameters and contaminants, at four groundwater lakes within the caves.
