The cascading impacts of biological invasions on vector-borne disease

Burkett-Cadena N. The cascading impacts of biological invasions on vector-borne disease. Research Permit and Reporting System

Indirect impacts on Everglades virus risk by Burmese python were investigated by analyzing relationships between mammal community, vector host use and virus prevalence in Big Cypress Preserve, and 2 other properties. Mammal diversity was low at all BICY study areas. Average Everglades virus infection rate in the vector was high. These results indicate that the Burmese python is having a strong negative impact on non-rodent mammals in BICY and that this indirectly impacts virus transmission.
