From introduction: "The purpose of the Port Gibson Design Guidelines is to encourage historic preservation and high design standards in Port Gibson’s historic districts in order to protect and promote the town’s architectural heritage and unique character. The guidelines provide general recommendations for preservation, rehabilitation, alteration, and new construction in Port Gibson’s historic districts. The guidelines should benefit property owners, architects, contractors, public officials, and members of the Port Gibson Preservation Commission, which has the primary responsibility for managing change in the town’s historic districts. The Port Gibson Design Guidelines are consistent with preservation principles established by the United States Department of the Interior and expressed in the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. The guidelines address only the exterior of historic buildings and focus on the architectural features that define the unique character of Port Gibson."
