The Monumentome project seeks to understand the composition of monument biofilms, the organisms causing the discoloration of monuments, and to identify how biofilm composition differs with humidity and temperature and across monument materials, geographic location, ordinal location of the sampling site and monument cleaning practices. In 2018, my team at the University of Maryland School of Medicine studios the Gettysburg and Fort McHenry monuments.
