Channel Islands National Park, Historic Preservation Report: Record of Treatment - Stabilization of the Scorpion Ranch Meat House, Santa Cruz Island
Simpson GD. 2002. Channel Islands National Park, Historic Preservation Report: Record of Treatment - Stabilization of the Scorpion Ranch Meat House, Santa Cruz Island. Historic Structure Report. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. Washington, DC
This report describes in detail the background and actions that were taken to stabilize the Scorpion Ranch Meat House. Also included in the report are statements of project costs, the Government Performance Results Act (GPRA) goals accomplished, and short and long-term preservation recommendations. The specific treatments for this structure were identified earlier during a site visit by the Intermountain Support Office, Santa Fe's Architectural Conservation Projects Program Exhibit Specialist and may be found in the Condition Assessment and Preservation Plan prepared following the site visit (Simpson 2002). The Scorpion Ranch Meat House is a wood-framed, L-shaped building with a shed roof. The building is divided into three distinct spaces: the totally enclosed main meat storage room occupying the northeast corner, with partially enclosed storage addition located in southeast corners, and a porch on the northwest corner. The building is composed of a concrete slab under the northwest and southeast spaces and built up wood floor in the enclosed northeast space. The walls are wood-framed, with painted board-and-batten siding around the meat storage space, and vertical board siding on the east and south elevations of the other two spaces. The shed roof system is composed of roof rafters running north-south over which it is covered by heavy gauge corrugated galvanized steel panels.
