This report presents the history of the construction of certain lock houses on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal between Georgetown and Seneca Creek. It includes information about their original contractors, use, and location. The subjects are Lock Houses No. 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 17, 18, and 19. The construction of the lock keeper's houses along the canal was undertaken within a few months after the commencement of the canal project, instructed by the president and directors of the Canal Company as early as September 19, 1828. The first group of lock houses to be completed were assigned for occupancy and use late in the summer of 1830. Names and compensation of the lock keepers is noted.
