This project examines Dichelostemma spp. on Santa Rosa Island and the adjacent mainland. The research focuses on the speculation that for prehistoric populations on the Channel Islands, Dichelostemma spp. are the most likely carbohydrate source to accompany a marine, high-protein diet. Furthermore, some researchers speculate that corm collecting would have been a task suitable for children or elderly people within Chumash tribes.
