Standard Operating Procedure 1.4.14 Species Diversity and Seedling/Sapling Measurements—Version 1.0

Boyle MF. 2019. Standard Operating Procedure 1.4.14 Species Diversity and Seedling/Sapling Measurements—Version 1.0. Southeast Coast Network

This standard operating procedure (SOP) provides instruction for how to collect and record species diversity and seedling/sapling data in Southeast Coast Network (SECN) parks. Vascular plant composition and abundance data are collected using 20 × 20 meter (m; 65.6 × 65.6 feet [ft]) plots in natural and semi-natural habitats. Collectively, these data describe the current condition of plant communities and their responses to key stressors. This is accomplished using metrics of species richness, per-species frequency, and per-species cover. Data on seedling and sapling abundance provide information on advance regeneration and future seral stage development of the vegetation community. The datasheets used for this SOP include SECN Veg Form 5—Species Diversity and Form 6—Seedling/Sapling Measurements. They are included in Appendix A of this SOP.
