Assessing regeneration of pinyon pine and juniper in the Colorado National Monument
Kennard DK. Assessing regeneration of pinyon pine and juniper in the Colorado National Monument. Research Permit and Reporting System
The purpose of this study was to assess the regeneration and mortality of pinyon pine and juniper in the Colorado National Monument (COLM). Results showed that there was more regeneration present in 2018 than in 2008. However, pinyon mortality, mostly due to the Ips beetle, has shifted the composition of the woodland from a pinyon dominated to a juniper dominated system. This shift in dominance will likely continue with the ongoing Ips beetle mortality.
