NPS Layer Naming Conventions

National Park Service Enterprise GIS Subcommittee (EGISS). 2012. NPS Layer Naming Conventions. National Park Service

To encourage greater consistency within the National Park Service for dataset names, the NPS GIS Council has adopted a layer naming convention. The use of this convention will facilitate future regional and national Enterprise GIS efforts and support better data management and organization within the NPS. Although the convention is not required, it is encouraged for everyday use and regular data management activities with all agency data. It is not recommended, however, for transferring data from one site to another where different layer naming standards have already been established.
