This report was prepared to satisfy in part the research needs for the preservation/stabilization of Dam No. 2 and its associated structures. The purpose of the report is to provide a thorough historical study of the Dam No. 2 complex to insure that the stabilization and preservation of these structures are historically accurate. It includes administrative and historical information about the structures, a timeline of events associated with Dam No. 2 (1828-1852), payments made by the company for the construction of the structures, and several photographs. The Seneca Falls Feeder and Guard Lock No. 2 are associated structures in the Dam No. 2 complex, part of Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park and located in Seneca, Maryland. Dam No. 2 and associated structures are significant architectural and engineering resources that were important to the operation of the canal. It supplied water for the 16.6 mile stretch of the canal to Dam No. 1 at Little Falls, and it was the western terminus of canal navigation for three years (1831-34) until construction of the waterway was completed to Harpers Ferry. Because the part of the canal on which the dam is located was proposed to be developed as an interpretive center, the plan proposes stabilization/preservation of the Dam No. 2 complex and recommends consideration of its future restoration.
