This report has been prepared to satisfy in part the research needs for the preservation/stabilization of the Cushwa Warehouse located at Williamsport, Maryland. The purpose of the report was to provide a thorough historical study of the Cushwa Warehouse to insure that stabilization and preservation of this structure is historically accurate. The Cushwa Warehouse is a significant historic architectural resource because of the role it has played in the trade on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal and in the local economic development of Williamsport. The report covers the history of the warehouse structure in relation to the economic development of Williamsport, with information about the founding of Williamsport, construction and use of the warehouse, impact of the canal, and various owners. The report recommends that Cushwa business records that were referenced for this report be gathered and kept at C & O Headquarters.
