Some Preliminary Observations on Capulin Canyon Flood of June 26, 1996

Reneau S. 1996. Some Preliminary Observations on Capulin Canyon Flood of June 26, 1996

I accompanied Sue Cannon, U.S. Geological Survey, into Capulin Canyon on July 3-5, 1996, in order to assist with her landslide and debris flow hazard evaluation. Some general observations of the effects of the June 26 flood were made on July 3 and 4 in the 4.3 km long reach between the upper trail from the Dome Trailhead and Base Camp. In addition, on July 5 I made additional observations in the 4.5 km long reach between Base Camp and Painted Cave in order to examine general downstream changes in geomorphic effects of the flood.
