This report describes the history and architecture of Burnside Bridge, a stone bridge at Antietam National Battlefield constructed in the early 1800s. The bridge was a strategically important landmark at the Battle of Antietam and was later named after the Union general Ambrose Burnside whose forces stormed the bridge. The report was commissioned to guide future repair and rehabilitation projects and to provide documentation of the bridge. It also offers several recommendations for improving both the historic and structural integrity of the bridge.
