The purpose of this project is to map the transitional boundary between ponderosa pine and pinion juniper woodlands using a combination of geographic information system (GIS) and photo interpretation techniques. Comparative spatial techniques will be used to identify vegetation boundaries temporally. The completed data base will be available to ecologists at Bandelier National Monument to assist them in their studies on landscape change and to support their goal of managing the park as a natural zone.
