On June 26 and 27, 2018, staff from DEWA, WRD, and CSU participated in a reconnaissance-level assessment of five (5) stream reaches from the same number of watersheds to evaluate potential impacts of recently downed timber from Winter Storms Riley and Quinn (March 2018). The purpose of this assessment was to determine if large assemblages of instream and floodplain wood pose any immediate or ultimate threat to NPS infrastructure, functions or natural resources. From a resource management perspective, downed timber provides numerous ecosystem benefits and our general recommendation is to leave the instream/floodplain wood in place and allow natural processes to prevail.
