Historic Building Report Part I for Building No. 37: The John T. Rieley Building

Snell CW. 1968. Historic Building Report Part I for Building No. 37: The John T. Rieley Building. National Park Service

This report provides historical and architectural data for Building 37 at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park and suggestions for restoration to its 19th century appearance. The building was a drug store in the early 19th century and a shoe store operated by John T. Rieley from 1854 to 1861. The report recommends rebuilding the front wall of the building seven feet back from the sidewalk to correspond to its original location, changing the building's materials to appear more period-appropriate, and using the front windows of the buildings as an exhibit of a typical 19th century shoe store.
