This report presents the physical condition and historical context of Fort Chaplin. Fort Chaplin was part of the ring of fortifications installed around Washington, D.C. during the Civil War. Fort Chaplin was built late in the war, never saw combat and was abandoned shortly after the war. This report recommends only stabilizing the fort's ruins.
