This document contains a memorandum from the Deputy Chief of Cultural Resources Management to the Chief of Cultural Resources Management, regarding a trip report and investigation at Snee Farm, Charles Pinckney National Historic Site. On July 17 and 18, 1990, the author visited Snee Farm to x-ray portions of the house to determine the age of the building. Previously, the house at Snee Farm was thought to date from the 1750s and to have been associated with Charles Pinckney, a signer of the Constitution and a governor of South Carolina. However, observations indicated that the building may have dated from the early nineteenth century. The purpose of the investigation was to determine the type of nails used in construction as a way to find the age of the building. The findings of the x-rays are described. Based on these findings, it is concluded that the Snee Farm House was built between c. 1825 and c. 1835.
