This document reports on an investigation of the roof of the Main House at Snee Farm, Charles Pinckney National Historic Site. On March 8-9, 2001, historical architect Jon Buono and architectural historian Tommy Jones visited the site to investigate existing problems with the roof of the main house, determine the historical evolution of the roof, and make recommendations for appropriate treatment. In addition to the physical investigation, the report draws upon existing documentation for the site and interviews. The report includes a chronology of roof changes, beginning with the original construction. It describes existing condition or problems of repair and treatment recommendations. Appendices contain information about roof construction and repair, meeting minutes (June 12, 2001) regarding the repair of the roof for the house at Snee Farm, and cost estimates for shingles in a roof reconstruction project.
