Heavy metals in Ospreys along the Upper Clark Fork River
Domenech R, Greene E, Guscio D, Shreading A. Heavy metals in Ospreys along the Upper Clark Fork River. Research Permit and Reporting System
In conjunction with the restoration efforts in the Upper Clark Fork River, we have been taking blood samples from osprey (Pandion haliaetus) chicks. Our sampling nests range from Warm Springs Ponds near Anaconda, downriver to Alberton and Tarkio. These valuable samples allow us monitor the levels of heavy metals in a top aquatic predator, and they help provide a high-resolution map of the levels of contamination from the Butte-Anaconda mine tailings.
