This study presents the history of the Baron von Steuben statue in Lafayette Park. Frederick William Augustus Henry Ferdinand Baron von Steuben was a Prussian-born general in the Continental army during the American Revolution. In addition to describing the history of the statue, the study provides a brief biography of von Steuben and a description of his importance to German Americans in the 19th century.
