This report concerns the proposed reconstruction of a Pigeon Hill Redoubt at Colonial National Historical Park. Although some evidence permitting definite interpretation for reconstruction had been lost by erosion, there was no damage to the interior from military action. The report notes that redoubts serve individual purposes and require specific recommendations for restoration. Redoubts functioned to halt an advancing enemy before the main line of fortifications could be attacked. They were not constructed singly; this is one of four units. Three known facts on which to base research for the reconstruction are: 1) the perimeter of the redoubt's interior; 2) the number of men required; and 3) the description given by Count De Deux-Pont after the evacuation. Details and descriptions of historical accounts and observations express what is known and what can be deduced about the redoubt to support the proposed reconstruction.
