This document defines what types of objects and records the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will maintain in its museum collections, as well as describing the memorial's collection goals and the laws and regulations that pertain to these collections. The document is intended to guide the memorial in maintaining its collections by defining what the Vietnam Veterans Memorial collections should and should not accept. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is unique in that its collections are composed mainly of offerings left at the memorial. This scope of collection statement was created, in part, to more clearly define these collections and prevent them from growing at an unsustainable rate.
