This SOP outlines marine water quality procedures at Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park (KAHO), Kalaupapa National Historical Park (KALA), War in the Pacific National Hisotircal Park (WAPA), and National Park of American Samoa (NPSA). Complete understanding of water sample collection requires consultation of this SOP and SOP #7 Collecting Freshwater Samples for water sampling general procedures. Marine water quality monitoring consists of collecting sonde readings as well as 3 filtered water samples at the surface (about 1 m depth) and at the bottom (about 1-2 m from the bottom depth) at each of 8 sites per park. There are 4 fixed sites (sites are returned to each quarter) and 4 temporary sites (a new set of randomly selected sites for each quarter). At NPSA sampling consists of 4 fixed and 4 temporary sites (surface and bottom) in the Tutuila marine area and 3 fixed sites (surface only) in the Ofu marine area.
