This survey report concerns restoration and rehabilitation of buildings No. 4, 4A, 4D, 4C, and 4B in the Swan Tavern Group on Lot 25 at Colonial National Historical Park. The structures in the group -- Swan Tavern, detached kitchen, stable, smokehouse, and dairy (privy) -- have been reconstructed on their original sites after archeological survey, historical investigation, and architectural survey. The tavern occupied a prominent place on Main Street in Yorktown and was a well known place of public entertainment in the eighteenth-century city. The tavern was built between 1719 and 1722. The reconstruction by the National Park Service was in 1934. It was recommended that the exterior continue to be aligned with eighteenth century conditions and feeling. The suggested uses of the structures in the group are for concessions, housing, storage, and interpretation.
